Collage Inspiration

Her name is Dede aka Inkwell and she makes the most fabulous collages with pictures torn from magazines and some craft paint. Yeah, craft paint, the cheapo stuff you buy for $.97 at Michaels. She's such an inspiration to me that I've been playing, and playing, and PLAYING with paint and paper to the point of total frustration! Honestly, you'd think that someone who can scrapbook and put together a journal page or two would be able to collage! Well, I've got news for you....it ain't that easy! My first collage came out okay after hours and hours of painting over everything I hated and starting again. Collage #2 is a frightful mess and I don't think I care anymore if I save it or not. But Collage #3....well, I'm downright proud of it.

Art Crap!

I'm SO bummed! I probably shouldn't have taken these pictures because now that I see what I've done to the originals, I want to cry...or throw something...! I was really proud of myself for piecing together these two collages. I liked them, but I wasn't finished. I had to start smearing the paint...I just had to. I think I broke my own heart...so much so that I can't post the end result until I've found some way of making it look better, which may be never.

I think this might be a sign from the art gods that says "stick to scrapbooking, you idiot!"

I was attempting to make collages a la Inkwell. Been watching her Ustreams and I think she's very talented, and she makes it look so easy, but easy it isn't. Check out her blog for some great pictures of her work, or view her videos on Ustream. It's worth it!

4/4/11 Update

I've totally destroyed and trashed both of the above collages. Onward.

Another Journal Page

I liked it...until I posted it. The colors are a lot more vibrant than they look. The page started out green and it was too dark, way too dark. I finally caved and tried to save it, ended up with this. I like it. The original that is. I like it.

Travelogue Swap - January

This is the page I did in this months travelogue for DL over at Your Paper Pantry. It's now on it's way to Australia and another book is coming to me for March. This will continue for six more months until my original book returns to me with pages completed by people on the east coast, the west coast, Australia and Canada. I loved making this page for DL. I look forward to working on the next book and can't wait to see my own completed travelogue!

DL's book is about who you would want to meet (past or present). She chose Lady Di and I chose the Grand Dame of Them All, Katherine Hepburn. I also joined a tag swap at Your Paper Pantry. The theme was women in the public eye who inspired you (not family). I chose Katherine for that as well.

MyScrapPit.blogspot.com

I did a silly thing. I changed the address of my blog before notifying anyone. Can I hear a duh?

Well, the new one is a lot easier, http://myscrappit.blogspot.com/, better than lifeinthesandpit,etc.etc.etc. I just wish the people that have the name TheScrapPit would give it up since they're not using it. I even sent them a message a couple years ago but no response. I believe it's a real scrap pit...you know, junk metal and that kind of stuff. They've never set up a blog, just latched onto the name and I want it! I'm happy with MyScrapPit but now it looks like I removed my blog when all I did was give it a new address.....sigh.

Fun! Fun! Fun!

I was lucky enough to discover an Art Journal Ustream-a-thon over the weekend. It was a Loving Kindness fest put together by a very talented and arty group of women that are highly visible on Ustream and YouTube. I like nothing more than watching them create! Unless it's creating along with them!

It's so much fun to just slap paint and paper together to make something pleasing to your eye. And it doesn't matter if it isn't pleasing to someone elses!! The theme was love, the color was pink, and I couldn't help but follow along. It's imperfect to say the least...but it sure was fun.
